The 4hour work week is a transformational guide that manifests a new and better worldview of the modern society. It’s one of the most inspiring and realistic books as the author, Tim Ferris, presents the reality of life and pragmatic instruction on how to change your life. The guide documents Tim’s frustration and how he quit his job to do something that was fulfilling in his life.

We won’t dwell so much on the content of the book, rather, we will analyze the techniques in this book and how you can leverage them. You don’t have to quit your job or be single or risk-taker. You just need to apply some techniques in your life, and with time, you’ll find joy in your life. You don’t need to be a millionaire, but you can use the currencies of time and mobility to explore life.

You don’t need to replicate everything that Tim has recommended in his guide, but you can use the same techniques to get the same results. The framework for most of the 4hour work week is structured under five major principles; Automation, having a proven product, mentorship, patience, and time management.

1.  Implementing the 4hour work week with Automation

To become a member of the so-called “New Rich,” you’ll need to establish systems that replace you, and an easy way to do so is to hire a VA (virtual assistant) – someone in a low-cost area who can do menial tasks for you. However, only delegate time-consuming and well-defined tasks otherwise, delegation might not work as you’d hope. When you delegate task, you need to be doing something more constructive; don’t delegate tasks to spend time doing valueless tasks.

Automation will leave ample time for you to carry out profitable activities other than time-consuming activities that are not of high value. For instance, affiliate marketing is one of the best things you can try if you want to make the 4hour work week a reality in your life. Outsource creation of content, marketing your products, and optimizing your site. Freeing yourself from these exhaustive activities will create ample time to open more sites and invest elsewhere.

2. Having a Proven Product

You need to find a proven product that will sell. However, when it comes to finding a product to sell, you need to overlook your passion. Your passion for music doesn’t mean that you find a product in that niche as it might not be profitable; you should follow a systematic approach when picking a niche. Here are six strategies to help you find a product to sell;

a) Accessories for heavy equipment- most people will spend weeks trying to get the best deal on a TV but wouldn’t spend time researching for an HDMI cable. Therefore, the best way to identify a product is to focus on accessories for the heavy equipment rather than the equipment themselves.

b) Identify customer with a problem or passion- passionate people will spend a lot of money because they really love that particular product. For instance, an avid fisher will invest thousands of dollars to buy boats and related accessories. You can also offer products that solve a painful problem as you’re likely to find captive clients eager to buy.

c) Choose a product in the range of $100-$200- this price range is large enough to create substantial per-order commission but small enough for most people. People are likely to pay without personally enquiring about the credibility of the product.

d) Find a product that’s hard to find locally

e) Sell consumable or disposable products

Spend time researching the best product to sell because this will make or break your ultimate goal of implementing the 4hour work week.

3. Mentorship

You need someone to guide you so as to avoid falling into pitfalls. Look for gurus in your niche so as to guide you on how to maneuver through. Don’t shy away from asking clarifications and guidance from the experts in your field of operation as it will not only save your time but also prevent you from getting many setbacks.

4. Patience

The 4hour work week is not something that you’ll achieve in an overnight. You need to build systems, products, and routines. Therefore, you need to be patient and passionate. You’ll encounter setbacks and discouragements, but you need to be patient; remember, even Rome wasn’t built in one day.

5. Time Management

To achieve substantial progress in life, you need to learn how to manage time. Time is a precious resource that can never be recovered. Therefore, you need to prioritize your activities and schedule your day. Take time every morning to plan your day and try to stick to your schedule. If you fail to manage time, achieving the 4hour work week lifestyle will remain a pipe dream. One last thing, when planning your day, make sure you plan time for interruption; this means that your schedule should have allowances- it shouldn’t be too strict.
